Teide National Park

Teide National Park is Tenerife's most famous attraction, known for its breathtaking volcanic landscapes and being home to Spain's highest peak.

Teide National Park in Tenerife

Teide National Park is not only Tenerife's most famous attraction, but also one of the most unique natural areas in the Canary Islands. At the heart of the park rises Mount Teide, at 3,715 metres the highest peak in Spain and an active volcano.

The volcanic landscape is filled with striking lava formations, colourful rock formations, and huge craters created by volcanic activity. At higher elevations, vegetation becomes increasingly sparse, yet you can still find unique plant species that have adapted to the extreme conditions of the high mountains.

The park can easily be explored by car, with plenty of viewpoints along the way where it is worth stopping. If you would like to go even higher, the cable car takes you up to 3,555 metres, offering breathtaking views over Tenerife and the other Canary Islands on a clear day.

Whether you are looking for hiking opportunities or simply want to enjoy the scenery, Teide National Park is worth visiting at any time of year. However, always check the weather conditions and road conditions before setting off.

ArchipeGo Tip

Arrive 1–2 hours before sunset, when the area around Mount Teide is at its most beautiful and there are usually fewer visitors.

Los Gigantes

Los Gigantes is one of the most famous natural attractions on Tenerife's west coast, known for its enormous basalt cliffs. The town takes its name from these towering cliffs, which offer breathtaking views from both the coast and the sea.
The Giants Rocks in Tenerife

The cliffs of Los Gigantes rise up to 600 metres above the Atlantic Ocean and are one of the most impressive natural landmarks in the Canary Islands. Their vertical rock walls, known as the "Cliffs of Hell", stretch along the coast and create a truly spectacular landscape.

Boat trips depart regularly from the harbour, offering the chance to see the cliffs up close. Many of these excursions also offer the opportunity to spot dolphins and whales, making them a popular activity for families and nature lovers.

If you prefer to stay on land, several viewpoints around the town offer fantastic views of the cliffs and the ocean. The scenery is especially beautiful in the afternoon, when the sunlight highlights the dramatic rock formations.

Los Gigantes is also an excellent starting point for exploring the surrounding area. It is easy to reach from Tenerife's main resorts, while nearby beaches and boat trips make it a great destination for a day trip.

ArchipeGo Tip

If you want to see the cliffs at their most spectacular, choose a morning or late-afternoon boat trip. The lighting is particularly beautiful at these times, and the sea is usually calmer, making the experience more comfortable.

Masca Valley Tenerife

Masca, located in the heart of the Teno Mountains, is home to just a few dozen residents, yet it is one of Tenerife's most famous attractions. The winding road leading here is an experience in itself, with breathtaking views around every bend.

Walking through the village, you can discover traditional Canarian architecture, while the surrounding mountains and deep ravines offer stunning views from almost every angle. The charming little streets, local restaurants, and peaceful atmosphere make it worth spending at least a few hours here.

Masca was once famous for its ravine, which led all the way to the sea. Today, the hike can only be accessed with advance booking and under specific regulations, so it is worth checking the current conditions before setting off.

If you want to avoid the largest crowds, arrive in the morning or late afternoon. The views are particularly spectacular at these times, and it is also easier to find a parking space.

Natural lava basins in Garachico

Garachico was once one of Tenerife's most important ports, but in 1706 a volcanic eruption completely destroyed the town's harbour area. Today, the lava flows can still be seen along the coast, creating the natural pools of El Caletón.

The historic town centre is especially charming, with quiet squares and beautifully restored buildings that are perfect for a leisurely walk. It is worth visiting San Miguel Church and the surrounding area of Santa Ana Church, both of which are important parts of the town's history.

Most trips last 2–3 hours, although longer excursions are also available and may include opportunities for swimming or snorkelling. Depending on the tour, you can choose from catamarans, sailing boats, or smaller motorboats, depending on the type of experience you are looking for.

Most reputable operators place a strong emphasis on animal welfare and observe the cetaceans from a respectful distance. This helps ensure that the experience is both special and responsible.

Stargazing at Mount Teide

Mount Teide National Park offers much more than breathtaking views during the day – it is also a spectacular experience after dark. Thanks to the clear skies, minimal light pollution, and high altitude, Tenerife is one of the best places in the world for stargazing. If you're looking for a truly unforgettable experience, stargazing at Mount Teide is a must.
A starry sky over Teide in Tenerife

Teide National Park is one of the world's best stargazing locations and is officially recognised as such. The high-altitude environment, clear skies, and low light pollution provide ideal conditions for observing the night sky.

On a clear night, you can see far more stars than you would from lower elevations, as well as constellations and planets with the naked eye. Organised stargazing tours often include professional telescopes, allowing you to observe distant galaxies, star clusters, and even planets such as Saturn. Many tours also include fascinating stories about the universe from knowledgeable guides.

Most tours start after sunset, when the sky gradually becomes darker and the stars begin to appear. As temperatures can drop significantly at night, even in summer, it is recommended to bring warm clothing.
