Teide National Park
Teide National Park is Tenerife's most famous attraction, known for its breathtaking volcanic landscapes and being home to Spain's highest peak.
Teide National Park is not only Tenerife's most famous attraction, but also one of the most unique natural areas in the Canary Islands. At the heart of the park rises Mount Teide, at 3,715 metres the highest peak in Spain and an active volcano.
The volcanic landscape is filled with striking lava formations, colourful rock formations, and huge craters created by volcanic activity. At higher elevations, vegetation becomes increasingly sparse, yet you can still find unique plant species that have adapted to the extreme conditions of the high mountains.
The park can easily be explored by car, with plenty of viewpoints along the way where it is worth stopping. If you would like to go even higher, the cable car takes you up to 3,555 metres, offering breathtaking views over Tenerife and the other Canary Islands on a clear day.
Whether you are looking for hiking opportunities or simply want to enjoy the scenery, Teide National Park is worth visiting at any time of year. However, always check the weather conditions and road conditions before setting off.
ArchipeGo Tip
Arrive 1–2 hours before sunset, when the area around Mount Teide is at its most beautiful and there are usually fewer visitors.
Location
Teide National Park
Recommended time
3–5 hours
Car recommended?
Yes
If you would like to take the cable car to Teide, it is worth booking your ticket in advance. The cable car takes you quickly to the higher parts of the volcano, but access to the summit requires a special permit, so it is worth arranging your ticket and the necessary permits in advance.
02
Los Gigantes
The cliffs of Los Gigantes rise up to 600 metres above the Atlantic Ocean and are one of the most impressive natural landmarks in the Canary Islands. Their vertical rock walls, known as the "Cliffs of Hell", stretch along the coast and create a truly spectacular landscape.
Boat trips depart regularly from the harbour, offering the chance to see the cliffs up close. Many of these excursions also offer the opportunity to spot dolphins and whales, making them a popular activity for families and nature lovers.
If you prefer to stay on land, several viewpoints around the town offer fantastic views of the cliffs and the ocean. The scenery is especially beautiful in the afternoon, when the sunlight highlights the dramatic rock formations.
Los Gigantes is also an excellent starting point for exploring the surrounding area. It is easy to reach from Tenerife's main resorts, while nearby beaches and boat trips make it a great destination for a day trip.

Masca
Masca, located in the heart of the Teno Mountains, is home to just a few dozen residents, yet it is one of Tenerife's most famous attractions. The winding road leading here is an experience in itself, with breathtaking views around every bend.
Walking through the village, you can discover traditional Canarian architecture, while the surrounding mountains and deep ravines offer stunning views from almost every angle. The charming little streets, local restaurants, and peaceful atmosphere make it worth spending at least a few hours here.
Masca was once famous for its ravine, which led all the way to the sea. Today, the hike can only be accessed with advance booking and under specific regulations, so it is worth checking the current conditions before setting off.
If you want to avoid the largest crowds, arrive in the morning or late afternoon. The views are particularly spectacular at these times, and it is also easier to find a parking space.
ArchipeGo Tip
Masca is one of the most beautiful places in Tenerife, but the road there is narrow and winding. If you are not confident driving on mountain roads, consider taking an organised tour instead.

Anaga Mountains
Anaga Mountains are located in the northeastern part of the island and are part of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Thanks to their volcanic origins and unique microclimate, the area is home to a remarkable variety of plant life, including species that are rare even by global standards.
The area's best-known attractions include winding mountain roads, dense laurel forests, and countless hiking trails leading to spectacular viewpoints. Along the way, it is worth stopping at the Mirador Cruz del Carmen or the Mirador Pico del Inglés viewpoints, from where you can enjoy views across much of Tenerife on a clear day.
Anaga is not only a paradise for hikers but also a great destination for those who want to enjoy a peaceful day surrounded by nature. The small mountain villages and local restaurants offer an authentic glimpse into everyday life in the Canary Islands.
ArchipeGo Tip

One of the most popular areas of the park is Planet Penguin, home to one of the world's largest artificial penguin habitats. Spectacular animal shows and beautifully designed tropical gardens make the visit even more special.

Adrenaline seekers can try the famous Tower of Power slide, while families can relax on the lazy river, in the wave pool, or in the areas designed for younger children. One of the park's highlights is its huge artificial wave pool, where some of Europe's largest artificial waves await visitors.
Siam Park is a full-day experience, so it is worth coming prepared with comfortable clothing, a towel, and enough time. Longer queues can form during peak periods, which is why many visitors choose the Fast Pass option.
ArchipeGo Tip

The beach stretches for more than a kilometre, so even during busier periods, it is usually possible to find a quieter spot. There are restaurants, showers, changing rooms, and bars nearby, making it easy to spend a full day here.
The mountains rising above the beach offer stunning views over the bay. If you have time, be sure to visit the Mirador de Las Teresitas viewpoint, where you can capture one of Tenerife's most iconic views.

Its old town is remarkably well preserved, making you feel as if you have stepped back in time. Traditional Canarian houses with wooden balconies and charming courtyards are among the town's greatest treasures.
One of the town's most famous buildings is Casa de los Balcones, a beautiful traditional Canarian house with an impressive wooden balcony and ornate interior. A few minutes away, you can visit the Victoria Gardens, which offer stunning views over the La Orotava Valley and Mount Teide.
La Orotava is not only known for its historic buildings, but also for its charming streets and local restaurants. It is worth spending some time simply wandering around, as even the quieter streets can reveal unique buildings and beautiful viewpoints.

Garachico
Garachico was once one of Tenerife's most important ports, but in 1706 a volcanic eruption completely destroyed the town's harbour area. Today, the lava flows can still be seen along the coast, creating the natural pools of El Caletón.
The historic town centre is especially charming, with quiet squares and beautifully restored buildings that are perfect for a leisurely walk. It is worth visiting San Miguel Church and the surrounding area of Santa Ana Church, both of which are important parts of the town's history.
The natural pools can be found in several places along the coast and are especially popular during the summer months. When sea conditions are calm, they offer an excellent opportunity to swim in natural volcanic pools while enjoying the dramatic coastal scenery.
Garachico has a relaxed atmosphere throughout the year, making it a great place to experience the quieter side of Tenerife. The local restaurants, historic surroundings, and peaceful streets make it an ideal destination for a slower-paced day trip.

The relaxed beachfront promenade is lined with cafés, restaurants, and smaller shops, making it a pleasant place to spend a few hours. The beach itself is also ideal for water sports, while nearby beaches offer opportunities for those who simply want to relax by the sea.
At the end of the beach stands Montaña Roja, a distinctive red volcanic cone that can easily be reached on foot. From the summit, you can enjoy beautiful views over El Médano and the surrounding coastline.

Tenerife's southern coast is one of the best places in the world for observing cetaceans. The island and nearby La Gomera are home to several species of whales and dolphins throughout the year, so there is a good chance of spotting them during almost every boat trip.
Most trips last 2–3 hours, although longer excursions are also available and may include opportunities for swimming or snorkelling. Depending on the tour, you can choose from catamarans, sailing boats, or smaller motorboats, depending on the type of experience you are looking for.
Most reputable operators place a strong emphasis on animal welfare and observe the cetaceans from a respectful distance. This helps ensure that the experience is both special and responsible.

In front of the basilica, nine bronze statues commemorate the Guanche kings, the indigenous rulers of Tenerife. These statues are among the town's most important landmarks.
The seafront promenade is lined with cafés and restaurants, where you can try local specialities and relax by the ocean. The town has a peaceful atmosphere, making it a pleasant place to spend a few hours before exploring the surrounding area of Santa Cruz.

As the area is part of a protected natural landscape, access may be restricted at certain times and a special permit may be required. Always check the current access regulations before your visit.

The town and its surroundings are also known for their wine-making traditions. The volcanic soil and unique climate give the local wines their distinctive character, making Icod de los Vinos a great place to explore Tenerife's wine culture.
If you have more time, a visit to the Mariposario del Drago butterfly garden is also worth considering. Icod de los Vinos is an excellent choice for a half- or full-day trip, especially if you want to combine sightseeing with local gastronomy and wine experiences.

Stargazing at Mount Teide
Teide National Park is one of the world's best stargazing locations and is officially recognised as such. The high-altitude environment, clear skies, and low light pollution provide ideal conditions for observing the night sky.
On a clear night, you can see far more stars than you would from lower elevations, as well as constellations and planets with the naked eye. Organised stargazing tours often include professional telescopes, allowing you to observe distant galaxies, star clusters, and even planets such as Saturn. Many tours also include fascinating stories about the universe from knowledgeable guides.
Most tours start after sunset, when the sky gradually becomes darker and the stars begin to appear. As temperatures can drop significantly at night, even in summer, it is recommended to bring warm clothing.
ArchipeGo Tip
If this is your first stargazing tour, choose a programme that includes telescope observation and a knowledgeable guide who can help you identify constellations and explain what you're seeing.
